Black and tan dog

Shannas Pinotage, ‘Toby’, was sold as a pet at eight weeks of age to Neil and Pauline Adam but used to occasionally come to stay here when they were on holiday or working away from home.

After I lost Daimler, they kindly offered to let me show Toby and in fact did all the training required.

His terrific temperament can be illustrated by how he happily mingled with all the other males at shows despite having been used at stud and only being introduced to the show environment at almost four years old.

He would be taken over here, travel in the car for hours to a show and he would then be handled either by Angus MacAra or myself.

Toby was Top Limit Gordon Setter in 2003, the first year he was exhibited, and gained his first Challenge Certificate from the well-known all-round Gundog judge, Jock Mackay, at Darlington championship show during September 2003 in his first few months in the showring. He gained his second CC at SKC in May 2004, the first show attended by his owner. His title came very soon after at South Wales. On each occasion, he did the double with Solitaire.

He is the sire of Sh Ch Shannas Keepsake for Cromasaig and Ir Sh Ch Glenfinnan Starsearcher.
